Kay Granger | United States Representative

Today, House Appropriations Chairwoman Kay Granger (TX) released the following statement in response to the Democrats' assumptions and speculations on spending cuts.

“House Republicans made a promise to get our fiscal house in order, and we intend to do exactly that. We really have no choice – the path we are on is unsustainable and puts the future of our nation at risk. The CBO recently reported if current policies continue, more than $20 trillion will be added to our debt over the next ten years.

“Our country fell deeper into debt, and inflation went through the roof during the two years the Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and White House. Throwing money at the problem didn’t help - something needs to change.

“Republicans are working on policies that will grow and strengthen our economy. We will also find ways to reduce spending without impacting our national defense, our commitment to veterans, or the services that Americans depend on.”

“We have the opportunity to take a hard look at department and agency budgets, find ways to reduce spending, and reform federal programs so we can prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. That’s reasonable and responsible, and it is our duty to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. This work will not be easy, but we’ll get it done.”
