WASHINGTON, D.C. - A delegation of stakeholders in the cleanup program from Moab, Utah met with EM leadership last week to discuss the future of the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project. Pictured from left: Kristen Ellis, EM director of regulatory, intergovernmental and stakeholder engagement; Rani Derasary, Moab City Council member; Jacques Hadler, Grand County Commission chair; Mary McGann, Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee chair and Grand County Commission member; William “Ike" White, EM senior advisor; Joette Langianese, City of Moab mayor; Jeff Avery, EM principal deputy assistant secretary; and Cathy Tullis, EM chief of staff. The Moab delegation was in Washington, D.C. to meet with congressional representatives to lobby for continued support for the Moab Project, which has successfully relocated more than 13 million tons of the estimated 16 million tons of uranium mill tailings in the pile and other contaminated materials from the Moab Site. The project is about 80% complete and recently completed demolition of EM’s last remaining legacy building at the site - the Atlas Building.
