The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Electricity on Aug. 29. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) today announced updates to its July 2023 $15 million funding opportunity announcement (FOA), titled “Energy Storage Demonstration and Validation." OE will select three demonstrations of different energy storage technologies to support the Rapid Operational Validation Initiative (ROVI). These demonstrations will validate the performance of new long-duration storage technologies and their ability to provide benefits to end users, as well as help new energy storage companies get their innovations to market faster.

The referenced ROVI data requirements in the FOA are now available on ROVI's website. The documents describe the data requirements for both Lithium-ion and Flow Batteries. They pertain to the “Collection of Field Data" section and the “ROVI Data Collection Workplan" section required in the project narrative submission.

The updates also list entities that may be eligible for a reduced cost share amount - 20% instead of 50% - if they are the prime awardee:

* Tribes or Tribal Organizations

* Institutions of Higher Education

* Small utilities that sell no more than 4 million MWh of electricity per year

* Disadvantaged communities, as defined by the Justice40Initative guidance

* Technology developers that are considered small businesses (less than $7.5 million in average annual receipts)

OE is at the forefront of developing a resilient, reliable, secure, and affordable grid.
